The RISC Software GmbH was founded in 1992 by Prof. Bruno Buchberger as an industrial spin-off of the Research Institute for Symbolic Computation (RISC) of the Johannes Kepler University Linz to aim at concrete software development in application to high-technology industrial projects. RISC Software GmbH today is an internationally recognized IT company which combines mathematics and computer science to develop individual software solutions in interdisciplinary teams for science and industry. Today, at RISC Software GmbH about 40 people are working on software solutions for logistics, medical informatics, several engineering disciplines, etc. Also a highly-specialized team is focusing on distributed computing infrastructures to deliver best-practice solutions in grid and cloud computing to scientific and industrial partners.

Together, RISC Institute and RISC Software GmbH form a unique entity – RISC – covering the whole innovation chain interfacing mathematics and computer science from fundamental research via education to industrial applications and economy. With world-renowned research results and application developments on core topics of mathematics and computer science RISC is also a main innovation driver in Upper Austria and a focus point of international cooperation. International cooperation exists with research institutes in mathematics, physics, computer science, bioinformatics, medicine, etc. from countries from all over the world.
